What is Ego and How to Get Rid of Ego?
Many times, during a human life span, we feel our Ego is necessary so that we can function fully as intelligent beings and deal with the real world. But having these feelings also inhibits us and makes us fear.
Ego is your idea about your self. Every experience of your life ads up to something to your ego. Is your self-image. The ego separates itself from the rest of the world. Say I, and that means I am alone, separate, and not connected to anybody and anything else.
Having an ego separates us from the universe, and God, this act of separation makes the fear of loss. It is this fear of failure that makes us want to control. Control of the universe and everything in it — if we cannot control it, we may lose it. The Ego stops us trusting in the world.
It is Ego that is stopping people experiencing the delights of what the universe has to offer. Without Ego, we can become unlimited and boundless. We can find new powers, new creativity, new opportunities for growth, for love, for harmony, peace, and joy in our lives that before we let go of our Ego, we could not begin to conceive.
How to Get Rid of Ego?
We have all been taught to let your mind make the decisions and not to listen to your heart. Your mind, after all, is a terrific machine and can work anything out. Ego is this barrier between the heart and the soul. The need to express your views on a given subject — because you ‘know’ it to be right, regardless of whether people want to listen or not. Ignoring the feelings of others because your actions are the ‘right’ actions to take. These are both examples of the Ego at work. Both cases of our need to ‘control.’ The Ego thinks it knows best. The voice of the heart doesn’t stand a chance.
We have not been taught that what is simple is what is right. The universe maintains balance and harmony in the natural world in the animal world. Any society that does not have an Ego operates very quietly. It seems the goal of spiritual beliefs to return us to our connection to that universe, to our Eternity so that we, too, can live, in balance and harmony with all that is. If indeed this is the goal, the purpose of that goal, the use of getting rid of Ego, is also to let go of the constant fear in which we all live.
Letting go of the Ego is a harsh lesson to learn. Very hard. But despite its difficulty, it appears to be the only lesson if it is your goal to achieve peace. Or enlightenment. It is the single lesson if your goal is to reach that place where you can genuinely say: “I don’t want to be better than you; I want to be better than me.”
Get Rid of Ego is a Complicated Process
Letting go of the Ego is a complicated process, which is also terrifying. But losing the Ego is also a beautiful thing. It brings us closer to our hearts. Getting Rid of Ego enables us to feel more than we have ever felt. It can allow us to see ourselves in a different way and in doing so, find new dimensions to ourselves. When you manage to know that how you can get rid of ego may give you the sense that you are living closer to your souls. Until you start, the process of turning down and finally shutting off the voice of Ego, the sound of your heart cannot be heard.
One way to start this process is to recognize when your Ego is coming into play. Whether it by you wants to correct someone, explain that their views are incorrect (in your mind anyway) if you feel anger at someone for their actions towards you. Then acknowledge these feelings to yourself, be it confusion, anger, hatred, or frustration, whatever they may be. Just feel them flowing through your body. Do not act. Just feel. Stop yourself from reacting. From passing judgment. Just let it be. Gradually over time, the Ego will not be as healthy and will start to loosen it’s held over your heart. This not only makes you aware of how often your Ego comes into play, but it will also amaze you how quickly you start to feel different in yourself, how the peace within you grows as your Ego diminishes.
The removal of the Ego is a spiritual idea. It takes the form of real-world experiences. God is with us, and we are God’s operatives. These experiences that God gives us are essential not so much for what they are but more for what they teach. And one version of what they teach is that they are there to allow us to shed our Ego and connect with God. One reason we need to communicate with God is to enable us to let go of fear. And one reason we need to let go of concern is that it is feared that separates us from each other and in so doing, keeps us from finding ourselves.
Why do we need to Get Rid of Ego?
It is essential to learn how to conquer the dark abyss of our Ego to become aware of our surroundings and to grow spiritually ultimately. Quieting the mind allows your inner being to blossom and to be heard. It’s amazing the things our soul has to teach us, so learn how to listen.
We need to overcome body-consciousness and realize our soul-consciousness. Our mind, the Ego, is the real barrier between the two. When we break down our perceived notion of individualism, pride, and separateness, we can step into inner awareness and realize our truth. The illusions of this world can begin to melt, and the sun can start to shine on what matters. Our life’s purpose will become more apparent than ever, and we can begin to live with the peace that stems from our core.
How to Get Rid of Ego with 5 Effective Techniques
1. Learn how to recognize it
When we are stuck between doing or saying what’s right and doing or saying what seems right, our Ego is getting in the way. Otherwise, when we do or say things to satisfy ourselves, we are feeding the Ego — so stop it in its tracts.
2. Listen to criticism and accept it
No soul is perfect. When we are rebuked, we are blessed with the knowledge of how to improve. When we are only praised, we are cursed with only illusions which make us foolish. How can we grow in any respect if we are never told where we need to improve? When someone can give us an outside insight, they are giving us the flame to burn our imperfections.
3. See only the positive in others
By doing this, it will be easier to keep positivity inside our heart, mind, and soul. When we notice imperfections in others that we don’t have control over, remember their virtues. If they do not have attributes, then remove yourself from their presence altogether.
4. Keep only good company
Others who hold the same values of life and who are on the same path of spiritual revelation and growth are the only ones who are worthy of our company. This way, you have others to remind you that we are not our Ego and that we have a purpose that needs to be followed through.
5. Never try to change somebody
Thinking that we can is our over-fed Ego talking. We do not have such power, so accept this. Every person is on their path to spiritual growth, and they need to learn in harder ways than others. Therefore, souls reincarnate — to perfect and grow. It all cannot be accomplished in one lifetime. Always keep this in mind.
What to Remember
We are not our Ego, although it sure tries to be convincing. When we give in to its desires, we only hurt our soul. Our mind is happy, but our inner being is that much more suppressed. It cannot be found when our mind is in control. Quiet our mind, take control of it, and we can learn to live in this physical world through our purest essence. This is where happiness is found and kept.
We can curb our Ego by practicing the above ‘5 ways on how to get rid of ego’: learn to recognize the Ego before it gets what it wants; listen to and welcome any and all criticism — and accept it; see only the positive in others; keep only good company in our presence, ditch the rest; and never even attempt to think we can change a person because we can’t and won’t.
