Loneliness is a State of mind
As human beings, we have an innate need to connect with others. Even so, many of us often feel lonely. Surprisingly, it is possible for a person to feel lonely even when they are surrounded by people. Even celebrities who are often in the company of adoring fans feel lonely sometimes. Some people even feel lonely in their marriages. Regardless of your situation, this deep and pervasive feeling called loneliness always finds its way into our lives and loneliness is a state of mind.
The feeling of isolation and loneliness affects all persons regardless of age, gender or social status. However, studies show that adolescents are more likely to be impacted by this feeling more than others. Seniors are also at high risk of feeling lonely; according to research, more than 20 percent of persons above the age of 60 frequently experience feelings of intense loneliness. In this article, I will be looking into two things: why we feel lonely and the spiritual purpose of loneliness in the event of awakening.
Why do we feel lonely?
The most common answer to this question is that human beings are naturally social creatures. Be that as it may, it is important to note that loneliness is a universal human emotion. As an emotion, loneliness has unique and complex attributes that differ from one person to the other. It has no single cause; this makes treating it complicated. For example, a lonely teen who struggles to make friends in school has different needs compared to an old woman whose husband has just passed on.
Loneliness is commonly defined as a state of being alone or solitude. The truth of the matter is that loneliness is a state of mind. Loneliness causes individuals to feel unwanted, empty and alone. In most cases, people who feel lonely normally crave human contact. However, this state of mind makes it extremely difficult for these individuals to form connections with others.
According to loneliness experts, there are a number of things that can make an individual feel lonely. These factors include but are not limited to:
Moving to a new location
Death of a loved one
Additionally, loneliness can also be a symptom of a mental health issue such as depression. Self-esteem issues may also cause a person to feel lonely. This is because people with a low sense of self normally feel unworthy of other people’s attention. This has the capacity to generate chronic loneliness and isolation. There is a number of health risks associated with loneliness. They include:
Alcoholism and drug abuse
Poor decision-making capabilities
The progression of Alzheimer’s disease
Suicide and depression
Increased stress levels
The above-mentioned conditions are not exhaustive, the list, merely, gives us insight on how serious loneliness can be to human beings. Fortunately, loneliness can be overcome. However, combating loneliness requires the affected person to put in conscious effort towards fighting loneliness. Below are a number of things you can do to overcome loneliness.
How to Overcome Loneliness?
- You should acknowledge the fact that loneliness signals that there is a need to change something in your life
- You must take steps to understand the effects loneliness has on your life both mentally and physically
- Consider engaging in activities that make you happy such as community service

The spiritual purpose of loneliness in the event of awakening
There is a litany of varying signs and symptoms you may experience during your awakening. Chief among these signs and symptoms is loneliness. This is, surprisingly, a universal symptom. Many individuals spend the most part of their awakening cursing the loneliness that comes with it. During awakening, it is possible for you to feel entirely alone. This adds on to the complexity of this confusing yet liberating process.
Loneliness has a way of adjusting our life conditions and social circles. It is that persistent feeling of loneliness that leads us to interrogate or relationships with other people. It helps us find out who among the people we associate with no longer resonates with us. As a result, we are able to move away from toxic and negative associations. Loneliness allows the universe to fill in the vacuum with people who are attuned to us; people who are loving, compassionate and supportive to us.
We spend most of our lives focusing or looking outwards
Before awakening, we may have lived a life based on our individual egos. During this time, we tend to focus on how we look, who we associate with and how much money we have. During spiritual awakening, all these things crumble. We are forced to focus inwards. This may appear to be cruel but the end result is usually marvelous. Awakening helps us to rely on ourselves; we no longer need to rely on others for validation. During spiritual awakening, individuals are turned from being meek and mild-mannered to independent individuals. This, in turn, helps us express our gifts; and thereafter, fulfill our purpose in life.
It is absurd how this consuming emotion is the very thing that awakens us. It allows us to release all those things we clutched on. This is because we are finally able to look inward for strength and validation. Loneliness helps unearth the truth of our divinity. This leads us to the realization that the earth is not our true home. It propagates the sense that home is another place, not earth. This leads us to miss home solely because our souls have been awakened. This may even help us realize the mission of our lives.
In order to be awakened, it is important that you fully know yourself. This cannot happen if you are not fully aware of the divine parts that create the whole. Lastly, it is important to know that the pain dissipates with time and eventually it is replaced with a sense of empowerment, wisdom, purpose here on earth.
5 ways, How to Overcome Loneliness?
1. Overcome Loneliness with Meditation
Meditation is widely practiced, but it is often misunderstood. It is not difficult to learn or to put it into action. When you do not feel connected, feelings of loneliness develop. When you meditate, you tune in to your own thoughts and feelings. You will start to feel bliss and fulfillment. These feelings will spread throughout your entire body and then spread into everything around you.

2. Overcome Loneliness with Acceptance
Loneliness can occur due to the way you feel about yourself. You may feel bad about yourself because of the way you were raised, the inability to deal with a failure, or problems in a specific environment. Perhaps you feel different from others, unappreciated, or misunderstood.
When you accept yourself as you are, it can make a huge difference in eliminating the feelings of loneliness. This does not mean you should do nothing about negative traits and behaviors. What it does mean is learning to accept your unique self as a person of worth and value. When you can accept yourself in this manner, you will see you have much to contribute to other people and the world around you.
3. Overcome Loneliness with Prayer
Loneliness can be a preoccupation with the self. Perhaps you dwell on every incident in which you felt wronged or shunned by others. Perhaps this has led to anger, depression, fear, or resentments.
Human interactions are never perfect, as humans are never perfect. Perfection exists only in the Divine. When you pray, you will begin to feel the unbreakable, unconditional love your Higher Power has for you.
This wonderful sense of love can transform your negative feelings into feelings of hope. When you know you are worthwhile to your Higher Power, your interactions with other people can change for the better. If you pray regularly, you will no longer feel separated from the Divine, other people, or yourself.
There can be another benefit to prayer. You can let go of negative feelings, and ask your Higher Power to take over. When you take this approach, you will no longer feel burdened by loneliness. Instead, you will feel blessed and at peace.
4. Overcome Loneliness with The Law Of Attraction
The Law of Attraction is based on the belief that what you manifest becomes yours. Perhaps your own thoughts, feelings, and beliefs have resulted in your current situation. If you believe you are unworthy of love or friendship, you are not attracting people who can provide love and friendship. As your feelings of loneliness and isolation increase, so does the reality of being alone and isolated from others.
The Law of Attraction can help you shed these limiting beliefs. You will start to feel that you deserve the best. It can expand your energy, and help you manifest a life of joy and fulfilling relationships.
5. Overcome Loneliness With Journaling
Journaling has been popular for centuries and has been used for many purposes. When you want to overcome loneliness, you will appreciate the benefits.
First, journaling can help you understand yourself. When you understand your thoughts, feelings, motives, and desires, you will see the areas in which you need to make changes. You will also start to understand the reasons you think and feel the way you do. You will see if you need special help in resolving these issues.
Second, understanding can be a positive step toward self-confidence. When you are overwhelmed by feelings of isolation and loneliness, you have very little self-confidence. This can result in poorer interactions and relationships with other people. When you feel confident, though, it brings out your best. You want to share yourself with others. You want to invite people into your life, and welcome them as new friends.
Third, journaling is a good experience. When you feel lonely, you do not want experiences that make you feel worse. Journaling, in contrast, is like an adventure into yourself. Journaling is exciting, revealing, and even enjoyable. At times, writing in your journal will actually be fun.
There are some important keys to successful journaling. For the best results, do it every day. Choose a quiet time and place where you can be alone with your thoughts and emotions. It can be an excellent way to start your mornings or to reflect late at night. Another important key is to not hold back. As your journal is meant to be private unless you decide to share it with someone, feel free to write about everything that comes into your mind. You will be amazed at the results of journaling if you make it a daily priority.
Perhaps you are unfamiliar with these methods, how to do them correctly, or not sure if they will work for you. This is the ideal time to consult with your Transformational Coach.
